60th Class Reunion

Hello DDHS Classmates,

Normally I would be informing all of you at this time about plans for our 60^th class reunion.  Unfortunately because of the corona virus we cannot make any definite commitments at this time.  I will provide you with an overview of the plans and possible dates.

Currently we propose holding the reunion either the weekend of September 10^th and 11^th or the 17^th and 18^th, 2021.  If the Village Inn (Delavan Lake) is still open we will have a fish fry there on Friday night like we did for the 55^th reunion.  It was a great gathering spot.  We received lots of positive feedback from classmates about the venue and the food.

Several classmates have asked us to have a lunch gathering on Saturday so they don’t have drive home in the dark or stay overnight.  We are looking at Delbrook Golf Course for the luncheon.  I’m also checking on the “Lake Lawn Queen”.  This is a boat out of Lake Lawn.  They have not responded to my request for information at this point.  I don’t know if they serve food, how many people it holds or the costs to rent the “Queen”.  Our class account has a balance of $275.00 that we could allocate towards the boat trip rental.  This might be something to do after our luncheon.

Sue Alter suggested we attend a performance at the Belfry Theater in Williams Bay on Saturday night. Everyone could order their own tickets on line.  If enough classmates show an interest in this we could request a block of seats together.  

My hope is that we are free of the virus SOON!!!  It has turned all of our lives upside down.  I will keep you updated as plans are finalized.  This probably won’t happen until spring of 2021.

I hope to see all of you at our 60^th reunion.

Susan Schipper Black

Obituary

Susan C. Black (nee Schipper), age 77 of Dousman, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Masonic Healthcare Center in Dousman.  Susan was born on June 29, 1943 to James and Beverly Schipper in Milwaukee, WI. 

She graduated Delavan Darien High School in 1962. She then went on to UW Madison and graduated with a Nursing Degree in 1966. She started her rewarding nursing career at St. Josephs working in the mom/baby unit which led to the NICU(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at Sinai and West Allis. She loved going to various restaurants with her friends and then heading to The Rep to see a play. Coaching her Brewers and Packers was a favorite pastime along with attending her Alma Mater in Madison to cheer the Badgers to victory! She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Bridge Church, and her faith in Jesus has brought eternal life with Him. Her smile and laugh will be missed by everyone that knew and loved her.
Susan is survived by her children, Paul (Barb) Wiseman of Dearing,Georgia, Jami (Bob) Radtke of Eagle, WI, Beth (Joe) Weber of Sussex, WI and Samuel (Samantha) Barta of Sykesville, MD; her grandchildren, Ryan (Amanda), David, Jennifer, Ashley (Bowen), Marshall, Nicole, Sarah, Stephen, Samuel, Sophia, Simon, Matthew and Eleanor; great-grandchildren, John, Lydia and Harlee; sisters, Nancy (Todd) Rodee and Debra (John) Gervase; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husbands, Paul Wiseman and Richard Black; and her sister Janet.
A memorial gathering for Susan will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 10:00AM until the time of the memorial service at 11:30AM at Wisconsin Memorial Park (13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield) with Rev. Todd Pope officiating.  Committal will take place immediately following, at the cemetery.

In Memoriam Updated

Frank DeVoy signed on 10 years ago to keep our class list updated and my thanks go out to him for doing such a good job.  I started this blog when I was on the reunion committee and have not been as thorough.  This is mostly due to the fact that I can’t remember how to get names on the side bar under In Memoriam.  It’s also kind of a bummer that the only additions have been obituaries as I check through all entries (talk about a trip down memory lane). I double checked with Frank and got info on those I was missing but some don’t have dates simply because I didn’t start out doing that. I’ll try and do that soon.

Obituary for Ms. Teresa Ester Bates

Bates, Teresa E. (nee. DeWolfe), age 76, of Waterford, passed away at her residence July 23, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Terrence Edward and Esther Virginia Frecker DeWolfe. Teresa graduated from Delavan-Darien High School, attended college at University of Northern Colorado and returned to Wisconsin where she lived the rest of her life; in Delavan, Elkhorn, Rochester and most recently in Waterford. She was an avid lover of animals. She volunteered for many years at a local horse farm, where she also cared for and loved her own horses Ohio and Fala as they lived out their lives.
Teresa is survived by her son Christopher A. Bates (Darien, WI), siblings Dan DeWolfe (Aspen, CO), Pat DeWolfe (Allentown, PA), and Lisa DeWolfe Krueger (Platteville, WI).
Preceded in death by her parents and one brother Teddy DeWolfe.

Carol Wilkins Greene

I’ve put off sending this sad note for as long as I dare, while trying—and failing—to find an “official” notification to attach to it.

Three days ago, Carol Wilkins Greene’s brother Jim informed us, through Sue Deschner Davis, that Carol passed away on 22 September 2019, apparently due to complications from cancer and pneumonia.

Although I’ve not yet found an official obituary, either out of Florida or Wisconsin, Jim told Sue that internment will take place—apparently alongside Bob—in Florida, but without a formal funeral service.

Rest In Peace, dear lady.

Obituary

James 'Jim' A. Foreman of Sterling Heights, Michigan, died peacefully at his home in the care of his family early Thursday morning, August 29, 2019. He was 75 years old. Jim was born December 28, 1943 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to parents Lynn and Helen Foreman.

Being born and raised in Wisconsin, Jim was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, and loved them so much, he bought the team (well, 1 share, anyway). He was thrilled to attend a playoff game at the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field with his son and daughter in 2014.

In 1961 he graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in Delavan, Wisconsin. He later received a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His career took him from Wisconsin to St. Louis, Missouri, and later to Detroit, Michigan. He worked his way up at Chrysler for 35 years, becoming an automotive manufacturing executive, retiring as the Body Center/Manufacturing Engineering Manager at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant. After retiring from Chrysler, he enjoyed spending time as a consultant, which took him around the world, even living in the UK for a few months.

In addition to his illustrious career, Jim had many hobbies and interests. He took great pride in everything he did - loading the dishwasher "correctly," maintaining his vehicles and homes, and making whatever he was working on the very best it could be. He loved to be busy and was always doing something or going somewhere. He will be greatly missed.

He loved motorsports from an early age, and participated in various ways - as a spectator, an engineer, and a driver - most of his life. He actively participated for the last 40 years; as crew chief for his son's go-karting career, and later as an SCCA driver and engineer.

Jim recently received his student pilot's license after 3 years of lessons, which was a lifelong goal of his.

He was a voracious reader, and enjoyed fiction, philosophy, science, and all things automotive. Jim loved old time rock 'n roll, especially Bob Seger, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elton John, Bob Dylan, and anything you can dance to. He was known for his love of cowboy boots, whether they were allowed by the dress code at work, or not. He also enjoyed watching and playing tennis.

Jim is survived by his loving children, Amber (Lyndon) King of South Lyon and A.J. (Sandra) Foreman of Vancouver, Washington, as well as four grandchildren, Alexandra, Anwyn, Catriona, and Ariana. He is also survived by his companion, Charlotte Cornell. James is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vicki.

A memorial gathering with be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd. (between 14 and 15 Mile Roads) on Wednesday, September 4th from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vicki L. Foreman Endowment for Cancer Education through the Beaumont Health Foundation, which Jim established in 2004, following the passing of his wife.
